Walgreens recently made a change to the way we redeem Balance Rewards Points, and it’s a GOOD change!
Previously, we could only redeem our points once we hit the 5,000 Points mark (=$5.00). NOW, we can redeem Balance Rewards Points as early as 1,000 Points (=$1.00)! This is AWESOME news, especially for those of you that like to keep your out of pocket costs low. I personally like to use them when I have them, which at times is hard since you can’t pay with points on offers that you are earning points on (well, technically you CAN, you just won’t earn your new points if you do).
Meryl let me know about this change this morning and I asked my store today while I was there. From what I understand, you will need to TELL THE CASHIER that you want to pay with points, and how many you want to use. I believe that the registers are still only prompting for redemption once the 5000, etc. levels are met. If you want to cash out at 1,000 points, or even if you want to use something like 6,000 points, simply let the cashier know before finalizing the transaction. You do still need to keep your redemption in multiples of 1,000 (you can’t redeem 2,500 points for $2.50… it would need to be either 2,000 or 3,000.)
For those of you that prefer to save up your points to reach the bonus levels (i.e. 18,000 points = $20 vs $18), you can still do so. Just know that this option is available.
***Remember to be patient… the cashiers are still learning too!
